Some of Zoom's key features are its ease of use without draining too many resources, and it's fast to set up. But, as with any tool in your unified communications arsenal, the Zoom app is not immune to problems with audio and video. Today we'll address some of common problems you may encounter with the audio side of Zoom. Zoom's help center can walk you through the troubleshooting steps in more detail. Zoom video conferencing consumes a good deal of bandwidth.
During a meeting, your device is transmitting a complex set of data packets to the receiving device, and vice versa. Slow internet causes poor quality video streaming, and buffering disconnection. So if your WiFi connection or cellular connection has even a slight fluctuation, it can cause high latency , and some of those data packets may get lost or interrupted in their journey. This results in audio cutting in and out, and lagging video.
These problems can even lead to Zoom disconnecting altogether. Not the ideal situation when trying to conduct an important meeting. Before you start your meeting or conference, it's a good idea to check your video and audio settings.
You can do this by joining a test call. Zoom will test your speakers automatically. If you can't hear a ringtone, click on the drop-down menu and select No to switch your speakers until you hear the ringtone.
Then click Yes to continue to the 'access your microphone' test. Unfortunately the issue of glitching sound only affects my laptop. It doesn't matter whether there are just two of us on the zoom, or ten. The same thing happens. I've tried different times of the day, still the same. Same issue for me and I'm a teacher! It broke up my classroom twice today. This happens on two different laptops both with the Zoom requirements fully met and running Windows 8. This happens in meetings of multiple sizes and I'm hearing from my students that a few of them have the same issue.
It happens when I log in directly from their website, use our in-school login or use the Zoom app. It began after the June 1 updates. I never had that error message prior to that, even though we've been using Zoom since mid-March. Just one thing I've been trying which seems to have worked so far is to run the laptop just off battery power when using zoom.
Interestingly, the issue only happens with the power supply connected. Just thought I'd share in case it helps you out temporarily until we can work out a permanent fix. I am having this very same issue and it only began after investing into a brand new Lenovo laptap with intel core i5 8th Gen.
My old laptop was a Core i3 and no problems with Zoom. I am an online teacher and this is really making things difficult. I use Zoom and powerpoints and videos. NEVER a problem until using the new laptop. So weird! I love my laptop because it so much faster and smoother with all other apps and platforms except Zoom :.
